Everyone’s goal is to receive the “full ride” scholarship to college, however, it’s important to know what that exactly means and entails. Full ride scholarships are a combination of various financial aids including academic, FAFSA, grants and 3rd party (scholarships from companies).
Every year millions of dollars go unclaimed from company scholarships because students are not applying for them. That’s right, TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!! So who qualifies for these scholarships and when can you start applying for them? There are scholarships for everyone, and they’re easy to find online. It’s never too early to begin looking for them, and you can start applying (and receiving) as early as 8th/9th grades!
FAFSA is free federal aid which is given to those who qualify based on the parents/care givers tax returns. It’s important to complete this in the Fall of your senior year.
Academics is the best way to receive financial aid which is why it’s important to have a great start in 9th grade and continue to do well up to graduation. Schools may use your GPA (grade point average) and/or your SAT/ACT scores to provide academic scholarships. The higher those are, the more money you’ll receive.
